Love your work as if your success depends on it
Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.
As a business owner, I fully believe you should love what you do. However, this advice is dead wrong. You will work.
You will work harder and longer than you did working for someone else. You will have to keep track of your own time and budget. You are personally accountable for your success as well as the success of your staff. There is no clocking out. The success and longevity of your business depend on YOU … and that takes work.
However, it’s not a job.
Entrepreneurship is so intertwined with our lives that it’s impossible not to see our business growth as an extension of our personal growth.
I’m currently celebrating my first year in business! And it was work. It was uncomfortable, exciting, thrilling, terrifying, and challenging all that the same time. I’ve exited my comfort zone without a way back in. Exactly one year ago, I took the leap to create a business that was truly mine.
If you would have told me last year that I would have built several websites, had the opportunity to speak on stage, been a podcast guest, and branched out as an online coach – I wouldn’t have believed you! However, I’m glad that I remained open to working.
Unlike growth at a job, you get to decide when to promote yourself and make new opportunities. You get to choose what to do and how to do it. But you are responsible for the outcome and it takes work.
Why I love work.
My work allows my clients:
- to cheer when their site goes live
- to celebrate on video when they decide how to describe their services
- to joyfully promote the products that I’ve created for them to make them successful
And it allows me to be more confident, take more risks, and know that I’m capable of doing anything that I can to enrich the lives around me. That’s what and the WHY that keeps me growing, and keeps me working …
